6/22/2026: We first met Reid in a Tropical Smoothie in Brighton, MI after a PLL Youth camp. Bowser is young and well mannered, but don’t let his day to day demeanor fool you. He’s an absolute beast on the lacrosse field, whether it’s playing Canadian Box lacrosse or when wielding a stick for the New York as midi/attack in the Premier Lacrosse League. The Atlas did, after all, bring home the championship last year.
Below are the cliff notes from his PLL interview the week prior: Link below
Recruiting:
Academic: take care of your grades
Character: College coaches focus on attitude and body language. Teams need great character. Treat teammates with respect.
Skill: Work ethic. Putting in the reps, cardio, weight training.
Highlight Video (2-3 minutes):
Front load it (First one minute)
Versatility: Show various highlights (offense, defense, assists, scoring)
Post Online & email links to the coaches
Grad class & player info in the video too
Email the head coach and CC the whole coaching staff (weekday)
Include player profile info (they are making one anyway)
GPA, Height, Weight, Stats
Customize emails specific to the team
If you have a team coach who can contact their coaching staff with a heads up after you emailed letting them know that it was sent.
Let the coaches know which showcases and tournaments you’ll be at.
Follow-ups before the next tournament (maybe once every 3 months grades 9-10, maybe once a month Junior-Senior year)
IMCLA - answer recruiting questionnaires
Show Cases:
Treat showcases like a championship game
Teamwork, Teamwork, Teamwork, make your temporary teammates look good
Same with going to tryouts with different teams. Make others look good
Your self-less play-making will not go unnoticed
Prospect Camps:
These are at College Campuses, but…
They aren’t as high quality
They are ways to keep staff busy and generate revenue
Close and easy to get to, then go. Don’t spend a ton of time and money on these
Misc:
Head Coaches make a huge impact (ask former players what’s the real once you’re on the team)
Find your niche. What specifically are you great at.
Who do you play like (what other player), where did they go to college? Coaches like certain playing styles
Stick skills are everything! Keep your stick in your hand
Coaches like dual sport athletes
Tons of DII and DIII athletes that can play at DI. The difference is the time commitment.
DI has more mandatory commitments (practice 5x a week, lifting 3-4x a week). If lacrosse is your life, then you can handle D1, but it’s a huge commitment.
DII and DIII have more free time to themselves (practice 3x a week, lifting 2x)
Other resources: NCSA, Lax Allstars
Old School, sending your own emails. Generally, ‘Recruiting’ services aren’t that great.
